about

Write-up for Club Fantastic:

When [The Club Fantastic Team] approached me to write a track with carte blanche for Club Fantastic, they mentioned that they would love to hear a "classic" Rhythmics tune. This was an interesting proposition as not only did I have to write something that needed to be fun on a dance pad, but I was forced to really think about what made a Rhythmics tune my own.

The arp that sets the foundation of the track was the first thing I wrote and laid out in the project. With a long release and drowning in delay/reverb, it has this dreamy vibe with a sweet sentimentality to it. I then built a reese and quickly found a bittersweet chord progression that rang with me.

I felt an angst and sadness with a glimmer of hope and optimism that took me back to when I was struggling to get my music career off the ground back in 2008/2009. I had been dealing with a myriad of personal and mental issues at the time that still affect me to this day. I thought it was interesting that they had surfaced in my effort to "find" a Rhythmics tune.

However, the glimmer of hope reminded me of my wife. We both have been through a very difficult time over the past few years due to death and illness in our family. I was reminded that no matter how deep in calamity we were, we always could depend on each other to see us through it. I had always wanted to write her a song but could never properly express myself. The vocal melody - "I adore you" came to me. I laid it out with my usual pitch and "digital" effects and the entire tone of the track seemed to have changed before my ears and eyes.

After struggling to find the right percussion set, I realized that I had written something very reminiscent to the breakbeat hardcore I used to write back then. From there, it all came together relatively quickly and 'Adore' came to be.

Thank you Roger Clark for the opportunity to get in touch with myself and write something so meaningful, and thank you Gaby for being my best friend and better half.
